Dual Survival Returns April 23rd 2014!! Cody Lundin Fired!

20140402-211932.jpg

Experts agree there are some very basic and universal rules for surviving in the wild. Find shelter, find water, find food, find help. Beyond that, there’s not much they agree on.

None know this better than Cody Lundin and Joseph Teti, who take on some of the planet’s most unforgiving terrain to demonstrate, in their own way, how the right skills and some creative thinking can keep you alive.

Together, with their drastically different backgrounds, the survivalists are dropped into a scenario that could happen to anyone: marooned boaters, lost hikers, stranded mountain climbers. Equipped with minimal gear that would have been carried in the real-life situations, Lundin and Teti must draw upon their arsenal of skills to devise extraordinary ways to use what they can find in their surroundings, as well as ordinary objects, and demonstrate what it takes to stay alive.

I can’t wait for Season 4!

Joe Teti

Joseph Teti is a veteran of both US military and US government special operations units. He is a former Force Recon Marine, Army Special Forces “Green Beret”, and a former operator in a highly classified government counter-terrorist unit.

He is a combat veteran of both OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) in Iraq, and OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom) in Afghanistan. He planned and conducted a broad range of special operations missions covering the entire operational continuum. These missions gave the President of the United States an option when overt military and / or diplomatic actions were not viable or politically feasible. Operations of this nature required rapid response with surgical application of a wide variety of unique skills, while maintaining the lowest possible profile of U.S. involvement. He has participated in numerous classified direct action missions with several Tier 1 SMU’s (Special Mission Units).

Joseph has performed high-risk PSD (Personal Security Detail) operations in Afghanistan and Iraq for U.S. government and civilian clients. He was also a member of a U.S. State Department close protection team assigned to several high profile government officials and visiting diplomats in Israel. Working out of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, and the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, he operated in high-risk areas throughout the country to include Ramallah, Abu Dis, Jericho, The Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He has extensive experience and training in fully armored vehicle operations, advance team operations, motorcade operations, CAT (Counter Assault Team) operations and surveillance / counter surveillance operations.

A graduate of over 30 formal schools in regards to special operations, his skill sets and experiences are highly diverse. He has attended several survival schools over his career and is one of a few individuals in the world that hold an instructor certification in tactical tracking operations from legendary tracker and former Rhodesian SAS (Special Air Service), and Selous Scout, David Scott-Donelan.

He has held a TOP SECRET-SCI with polygraph security clearance, the highest security clearance awarded by the U.S. government.

Cody Lundin

20140402-215126.jpg
Cody Lundin is an internationally known professional survival instructor with more than 20 years of hands-on teaching experience. Due to his intimate understanding of the physics, psychology and physiology of human survival, Cody is routinely featured as the consulting expert on real-world emergencies for national and international news outlets. He has trained private, corporate, and governmental agencies, thousands of students and dozens of national and international media sources in outdoor survival, primitive living skills and urban preparedness.

Cody’s self-reliance training began early. He created his first survival kit for living on the road after graduating from high school, then boarded a westward bound greyhound bus. He lived on city streets, alone in the woods, and in a radical commune near the Mexican border. Cody further honed his self-reliant expertise living in the deserts and mountains with very little modern gear or assistance – including two years spent living in a brush shelter in the woods where he slept on pine needles and cooked over an open fire.

In 1991 – with an initial investment of ten dollars – Lundin founded the Aboriginal Living Skills School in Arizona, where he teaches modern wilderness survival skills, primitive living skills, urban preparedness, and homesteading. When not teaching for his own school, Cody is an adjunct faculty member at Yavapai College and a faculty member at the Ecosa Institute, where he teaches the survival and sustainability curriculums that he created.

He is also the best-selling author of two books on survival and preparedness: 98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive! (2003) and When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need to Survive When Disaster Strikes (2006). Both books have been translated into several languages and are routinely featured in the top ten best-sellers for their genre on Amazon.

Lundin lives in a self-designed, off-the-grid solar earth home in the high-desert wilderness of Northern Arizona. There, he catches rain, composts waste and pays nothing for heating and cooling. Cody has been going barefoot for more than 20 years, part of his indigenous self-reliant philosophy. He is the only person in Arizona with a license to catch fish with his hands.

But there’s more news! Cody Lundin was fired from Dual Survival!

“Dear Campers,

Unfortunately, I have been fired by Discovery Channel for differences over safety and health concerns on the show and will no longer be a part of Dual Survival.

Although I’ll miss elements of the show, what I’ll miss the most are my fans and the opportunity to teach – on a global level – life saving skills, indigenous culture, and values of integrity and respect toward our natural world.

I have received numerous letters from viewers. Many are from kids, or their parents or grandparents, describing in detail how the show has changed their lives. It has brought families together, inspired kids to go outdoors, and motivated moms and dads around the world to take that family camping trip, many for the first time. If I can use a TV show to encourage people to turn off TV and turn on nature, I have done my job.

Thank you all very much for your support over the years. Be safe and prepared, and maybe I’ll train with you in the woods some day!

Stay classy,
Cody Lundin”

That’s a post from Cody’s Facebook.

So was it partway through the season? Was it after filming?

Will Joe be without his Barefoot friend? Will he be alone for some episodes? Did they find a replacement for some episodes?

What madness is going on?

I will miss Cody! Not because I like his skills. Often I, like Joe and Dave Canterbury (old co-host) disagree with Cody’s decisions, but I mostly watch to see how the crazy Sob handles going through all the situations barefoot and with shorts!

Whether you like him or not, he’s a badass!

Maybe Cody will go even more hardcore and join Naked & Afraid! Lol

What will Season 4 bring??

To add more news, Dave Canterbury (old co-host before Joe Teti) finally apologized for embellishing his résumé

What if they bring Dave back to go at it with Joe 😱

Whatever happens, it’s going to be a great season and I can’t wait! And I hope they also renew it for more!!

**Update** May 7th 2014
Just watched the latest Dual Survival in the Desert and they seem to be getting along as much as usual? Don’t know how it totally melted down enough to get Cody fired???

This season has been amazing so far! I totally enjoyed the 2 part episode!! Joe’s a crazy badass! Cody is the voice of reason, but Joe’s going to do what Joe’s going to do! Cody is trying to portray the show as an ordinary untrained citizen should survive! He conducts the show as an on air teaching lesson. Whereas Joe shares his highly trained tactical knowledge on order to survive and complete the mission, in the fastest time, even if he has to take a few chances along the way.

This show rocks! Bring Dave back for a season of Tri-Survival!!

From Joe Teti’s Facebook:
For those of you that watch the show, please take a few minutes to learn about my new partner Matt. Discovery knocked the ball out of the park when they found this guy. His skill sets and experiences are vast. He is in superb physical shape, and can handle the extreme stress of making a show like this. He has been “walking the walk” for many years. A truly unique guy, very charismatic and a great teacher. And lastly ladies….a good looking guy to boot!! Bonus for you!!

Well…the cat is out of the bag now and everyone knows who my new partner will be for the rest of the season. From the minute I met Matt I knew this guy has lived a very unique life and is a master of primitive skills. He is a very humble and soft spoken guy…which I like. He is in superb shape both physically and mentally. There is no doubt I will learn alot from him. He has certainly earned my respect and admiration.

For my fans, I am sorry that you had to see me blow my stack at Cody, however, as you can see, it was a long time coming. That is no excuse for letting my emotions get the best of me. Please forgive me…..I’m only human guys. Cody has great survival skills, but that alone will not get you to the finish line in a 2 man survival team TEAM being the key word….it just wont. The mental aspect of survival (in my opinion) is more important than the “hard skills”. Making a fire is ONE aspect….ONE of the survival game. You can teach anyone how to make primitive fire….Cody does it everyday with students….its the other aspects of survival that was creating major problems. I was shocked myself watching last nights episode as I had no clue as to some of what was shot. I saw it for the first time like you did. I learned alot from Cody and for that I am thankful. I wish him well and I am sure you will see him again on TV if that is what he wishes to do. Again….for you Cody fans……..continue to be his fans. For those of you that feel it necessary to make rude and inappropriate comments on my FB page, please maintain some professionalism. I have a huge fan base of young kids, and I do not want them to read vulgar comments on here. It would be greatly appreciated.

I have had a great 2 years shooting the show, and thank the Lord for blessing me with this fantastic opportunity. I have learned alot about myself and have taken my survival skills to a new level.

Quote of the day. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain

Meet Matt Graham, Discovery’s New ‘Dual Survival’ Host Replacing Cody Lundin

Dual Survival co-host Cody Lundin has traversed his last tundra for Discovery Channel — the fan-favorite survival expert’s final episode of the show aired this week. The show’s fans have had very mixed reactions to the news ever since Lundin announced on his Facebook that he was fired from the show in March, citing “differences over safety and health concerns on the show,” but the reality show must go on.
Yahoo TV has the exclusive first look at what Dual Survival will look like now without Lundin. Meet Matt Graham, Lundin’s replacement who was briefly introduced in Wednesday’s episode. Graham lives solo in the wilds of Utah for six months out of every year, is a world-class spear thrower, a skilled long bow hunter, and endurance athlete who has studied Judo, Tae Kwan Do, Wushu Kung fu, and Jeet Kune Do.

If he looks familiar it’s because he was featured in the documentary Living Wild, appeared on Discovery’s Dude, You’re Screwed, and has also consulted for Survivorman’s Les Stroud and The Amazing Race. So basically he’s incredibly qualified and co-host Joseph Teti will be in good hands.

But what did he think about taking over after such a controversial departure? And what will he bring to the show? Here’s what Graham told Yahoo TV about his new gig:

When you were approached about stepping in so suddenly, what was your first thought? This is not your first reality TV rodeo…
I was immediately excited because I’ve always thought that Dual Survival presents a great format for wilderness education, fun, challenge, and adventure. My passion for the land is absolute. I liked the idea of getting my feet dirty and being able to add my own creative energy to each episode, and to give the audience a connection to some of the Earth’s most amazing places.

Was it harder coming into a show like this that’s so focused on two survivalists? Especially midseason?
It’s not necessarily harder, but it is different than my other show, Dude, You’re Screwed, where there are now four of us. Every survivalist comes from a unique background and brings his own point of view. Because I have spent almost as much time alone in the wild as I have with people, I have a different perspective from most. My strengths lie in primitive skills and being able to live off of the land and cover vast distances of terrain very quickly. I have fed myself for long periods of time using my plant knowledge, along with hunting for food with the atlatl, bow and arrow, and primitive traps. The wilderness taught me a great deal, and I’m hoping to bring some of those lessons to the show, while keeping it fun and entertaining.

When you heard Cody was leaving, did it give you pause at all thinking maybe things were too extreme, even for you?
After filming a season of Dude, You’re Screwed, I was familiar with the physical, emotional, and mental demands of an intense survival show. But I’m always up for a new challenge with a group of people who are willing to put their hearts into it.

Dual Survival airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Discovery Channel. I will catch it! I can’t wait!

I totally missed the blowout episode last night and it’s not on demand! Fucking Cablevision you suck!

I can’t wait to see how Joe and Matt interact, Joe seems to really respect and speak well of him! I think Matt will be more easy going and have better communication skills rather than talking down to Joe. Although Cody didn’t wear shoes or pants he didn’t really have a hippy demeanor. He also looked like he juices and not the Jack LaLanne way!

Don’t get me wrong I love Cody he’s a bad ass! Walking barefoot in Africa etc!

Just not stereotypical hippie like. He’s strong, outspoken and set in his ways.

I also agree with Joe, sometimes you have to take chances in a survival situation, especially if you know there is no one coming after you!

If you know, no one is coming and I was hungry, I might have went after that cobra joe had face to face. His stick was long and had a blade on the end, the cobra has a wide hood making it a bigger target as opposed to a small pit viper. As long as it’s not a spitting cobra, I would go after it if I was starving, with no help coming!

Run from danger, unless you are cornered, or figuratively cornered!

**Update** May 24th 2014
I am finally watching the Final Joe/Cody episode. So far, it’s really well done! It’s a behind the scenes documentary! I am dying to see what happens! Cody, has done winter survival with Dave! WTF HAPPENED FOR CODY TO BE FIRED???

There are 2 types of Survival, which is what Cody doesn’t understand! There’s survival during a rescue mission and survival when no one is coming!

Each is a totally different scenario!

Cody is geared toward the first scenario! Sit tight and get rescued. Joe is under the assumption, no one is coming and do whatever you must to survive! That’s one of the biggest conflicts! If you tell Cody no one is coming, he may act differently!

The new guy Matt Graham looks like a Badass hippie/mountain man! More mountain man than hippie! He has primitive skills like Eustace in Mountain Men and Cody Lundin put together.

This should be an awesome new show!

**Update** May 28th 2014
This Matt guy is a badass! Not only is he highly skilled, but he is proactive and always thinking! He already had a hut, food and the way he built the hut, it caught rainwater!

Now he’s hunting with Joe! Instead of saying don’t kill a pig it may hurt you. He hit it good too! The guys a badass! I can’t wait to see more of this pair!
