The chicken sandwich was delicious! I got the double meat combo. The size of each of the chicken cutlets were huge! It stuck out of the other side of the bun almost as far as that side did!

They have natural ice cream and vanilla and chocolate shakes. They have a condiment station with BBQ sauce, mustard, ketchup, relish and more.

The fountain drink selection was terrible but oh well!

Check this place out! You will like it!

Supplement Review: Fire Cider – Tweefontein Herb Farm *

20140706-212649-77209095.jpg

20140706-212647-77207984.jpg
Stimulate the senses and kickstart the immune system with Tweefontein’s housemade Fire Cider, a spicy blend of medicinal herbs, roots and Thai peppers infused in a base of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. Fire Cider makes a tasty and nutritious salad dressing and an exquisite hot sauce. Enjoy Fire Cider as an alternative to alcohol based tinctures for a cold remedy or immune tonic, use about 1 TBS, 3-5 times daily for best results. Packaged in 5oz. bottles.
Ingredients: Organic Cider Vinegar, Ginger Root, Chives, Horseraddish Root, Garlic, Garlic Mustard Root, Thai Peppers, Oregano, Rosemary, Black Peppercorn
-tweeherbs.com

It’s pretty strong! The Apple cider vinegar, ginger and garlic are strong! People use it as a tonic for when the aren’t feeling good, I think it’s good to take every couple days! As a metabolic booster. I want to try to make my own and see how it is matched against theirs.

Recipe: Fire Cider
Have you heard of fire cider? The first time I encountered this traditional folk recipe, I have to admit I was terrified. Horseradish, garlic, onion, ginger, and hot peppers infused in vinegar? To drink? It took me years before I tried it, but you can be braver than me. It’s worth it! Plus you can use fire cider in so many ways — from cold cure to cooking to cocktails.

Hot, pungent, sour, and sweet, fire cider is certainly not for the faint of heart. Yet this fiery concoction has been revered for generations as a simple and effective remedy to relieve sinus congestion, ward off colds and flus, aid digestion, and increase circulation. Fire cider can be sipped neat on its own, mixed with other beverages, or used in cooking. (You might think of it like a savory shrub.) It’s especially useful to have fire cider on hand in cold weather.

As a folk remedy there are countless variations, but most fire cider recipes include ingredients like fresh horseradish, garlic, onion, ginger, and chile pepper. These are infused in apple cider vinegar (vinegar draws out many plant constituents), which is then strained and sweetened with honey. My recipe is based on the one popularized by herbalist Rosemary Gladstar (see her video and recipe here). In addition to the ingredients mentioned above, I like to add turmeric, citrus, and herbs like parsley, rosemary, and thyme. Together they form a potent punch that is immune-boosting, antibacterial, antiviral, congestion clearing, and warming.

I really encourage you to have fun and create your own fire cider according to your tastes and available ingredients. In fact, I make it a little different every time. In some batches I use spices like cinnamon and cardamom or add vitamin C-rich rose hips. Other times I use ground cayenne or dried chiles rather than fresh habaneros or jalapenos. If you use ground chile, start with a small pinch; you can always add more to taste after you strain the vinegar.

If you’re a fan of spicy foods, you might take to fire cider right away, tossing back shots to get your blood flowing on a cold winter day. If you have a more timid palate, you might want to dial back on the chile, sweeten with extra honey, and start with small dashes of fire cider in your food rather than drinking it straight.

A few serving suggestions:
Straight up: Rosemary Gladstar recommends taking 1 to 2 tablespoons at the first sign of a cold, and then repeating every 3 to 4 hours until symptoms subside. Some people also take fire cider as a preventative during cold and flu season.
Mix with lemonade or orange juice
Mix with hot water and extra honey to make a tea
Use in place of vinegar in salad dressings and condiments (like this fire cider honey mustard at Salt+Fat+Whiskey)
Drizzle on steamed vegetables or sautéed greens
Use in marinades for meat, tofu, and tempeh
Add to soups and chilis
Try a couple of dashes in a cocktail, such as a Bloody Mary

Are you inspired to make fire cider now? I’d love to hear what you put in yours and how you use it.

Note: As with any health concern you should, of course, listen to your own body and the advice of your health practitioner. If you’re curious about the research associated with some of these ingredients, check out the University of Maryland Medical Center’s guides to garlic, ginger, and cayenne/capsaicin.

Fire Cider
Makes 1 pint or more

1/2 cup peeled and diced horseradish
1/2 cup peeled and diced garlic
1/2 cup peeled and diced onion
1/4 cup peeled and diced ginger
1/4 cup peeled and diced turmeric
1 habanero chile, split in half
1 orange, quartered and thinly sliced crosswise
1/2 lemon, quartered and thinly sliced crosswise
1/2 cup chopped parsley
2 tablespoons chopped rosemary
2 tablespoons chopped thyme
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
2 to 3 cups raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (at least 5% acidity)
1/4 cup raw honey, or more to taste

Place all of the vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices in a clean 1-quart jar. Fill the jar with vinegar, covering all the ingredients and making sure there are no air bubbles. Cap the jar. If using a metal lid, place a piece of parchment or wax paper between the jar and the lid to prevent corrosion from the vinegar. Shake well.

Let the jar sit for 3 to 6 weeks, shaking daily (or as often as you remember).

Strain the vinegar into a clean jar. Add honey to taste. Refrigerate and use within a year.

Sounds pretty good! Lets give this a whirl! Stay tuned!

Liquiteria is about inclusion—we welcome everyone. We believe balance and not extremism is the key to reaching your full potential. No matter your current lifestyle, our mission is simply to inspire you to live a life filled with health and vitality.

What is Cleansing?
The cleansing process allows your digestive system to rest while fully nourishing your body with live enzymes and nutrients. Our cleanse programs are designed to rejuvenate and alkalize your body. The reward of a successful cleanse is enhanced well-being at all levels: you will feel leaner, have a glowing complexion and live each day with increased vitality and energy.

The duration of a cleanse varies based on your current level of health and prior experience with cleansing and cold pressed juice. We offer four options for beginners and expert cleansers alike. In addition, our Cleansing Coaches are available to personalize a program to suit your individual needs.

Why Cleanse?
Is your body functioning at its optimum health? We can all benefit from recharging our systems by eliminating toxins and flooding our bodies with nutrients. During a fresh juice cleanse, your digestive system has the opportunity to rest, allowing your body to utilize the energy normally required for digestion to restore your entire system.

Positive effects of a cold pressed juice cleanse include:

Increased energy
Improved mental clarity
Reduced bloating
Boosted immune system
Heightened senses
Rejuvenated skin
Normalized digestion
Reduced inflammation
Improved metabolic function
Deeper and more restful sleep
Weight loss
Reduced cravings for unhealthy foods
Restored alkalinity
Toxin release
Before a Cleanse
To ensure you get the best results from your cleanse, we suggest modifying your diet up to a week before you begin.

We recommend eliminating:

Caffeine
Alcohol
Nicotine
Refined Sugar
Wheat
Processed Foods
In place of these items, we suggest consuming 80% raw foods, including fresh fruit and vegetables and an ample amount of water to keep you hydrated. To introduce the juices to your system before cleansing, you can also drink two to four cold pressed juices during the day and enjoy a dinner consisting of salad, steamed vegetables and a serving of lean protein.

During
Drinking a juice every two to three hours ensures that you flood your body with rich nutrition throughout the day.

Water is extremely important during your cleanse as it flushes your organs and blood system of toxins. Juices drench your body with live nutrients, encouraging your cells to release toxins and allowing the water to carry them away.

As you become a more experienced cleanser, you will learn how your body responds best. The process of periodic cleansing will become easier over time and your results will enhance every time you cleanse.

For the best results during your cleanse:

Drink all of your daily cold-pressed juices in the order as directed
Drink your bodyweight in ounces of water daily
Drink one juice every 2½ to 3 hours
Rest when you’re tired
Exercise lightly to promote blood circulation; try yoga, deep breathing and gentle cardio
Exfoliate your skin, take saunas and hot baths
Post
Coming off your cleanse properly is important. The first day after a cold pressed juice cleanse, drink juices and smoothies, eat soups and consume lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. At this point, your body will feel deeply rejuvenated—take this new experience to build momentum toward a healthier lifestyle.

Lifestyle
Cleansing is a remarkable and effective process that heals and nourishes your body. Once you have achieved your desired results, maintaining is simple if you follow what you learned during your cleanse.

The best maintenance program includes keeping your diet clean:

Drink 2 to 3 fresh cold-pressed juices daily
Keep your food intake at 80% fresh fruits and vegetables
Drink your body weight in ounces of water daily
Exercise regularly
Exfoliate your skin regularly
Alkalinity
We suggest your dietary goal be to maintain an alkalinity of 7.36, as your body performs best when the blood is slightly alkaline.

The body’s pH is measured on a scale of 0–14. At 7.36 your pH is balanced and anything below 7.36 too acidic. An acidic body is prone to fatigue, stress and inflammation, and can experience a loss of lean muscle mass and weight gain. Keeping your body’s alkalinity at 7.36 or above is optimal and achievable with a balanced diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruit and cold pressed green juice.

Alkalization is the process of alkalizing your body, allowing it to thrive and ward off disease.

To achieve an optimal alkaline balance:

Drink nutrient-dense, live green juices full of chlorophyll
Drink your body weight in ounces of pure water per day
Maintain 80% of your diet with fresh fruits and vegetables
The paramount way to reset your alkalinity is to complete a 3 to 5 day cleanse with fresh cold pressed juice.

This place was really cool, fun and bright! But highly overpriced!

The Raw Chocolate Chia pudding was extremely tiny and about $8.00

The PEANUT BUTTER AÇAÍ BOWL was $7.50 and twice the size of the Chia pudding.

All that being said they were both delicious! The pudding was creamy and with the fresh raspberries the flavor just jumped out unexpectedly when you bit them. Would I get it again? Absolutely! But not very often due to the price!

The PEANUT BUTTER AÇAÍ BOWL was totally marketed wrong! I wasn’t sure exactly what I was getting! It turned out to be like frozen yogurt. I wasn’t sure if it was hot or cold, or just a bowl of fruit in a bowl with peanut butter on top.

They also had almond butter for those that prefer that.

Overall; check this place out! There are numerous locations around NYC. If you are in the area stop by!

**Update** July 7th 2014
I had a fee products over the weekend. The Killer XX juice was potent and it’s kind of like fire cider, but it’s more gentle due to the apple in it, but the cayenne and ginger is still strong! I liked it a lot.

The quinoa brownie was dry and tasted like wood chips just like the carrot cake both I can do without!

Now comes the smoothie!
The Blue Velvet is amazing! The nut butter is strong and the berries enhance the flavor overall it’s probably one of the best tasting and healthiest shakes I have ever had! I love it and will definitely get it again! However; I want to see how much whey protein they add next time!

**Update** July 17th 2014
Tried to make my own blue velvet today, it was close and was delicious, but not quite.

Restaurant Review: Num Pang Sandwich Shop – NYC

About:

Ratha Chaupoly and Ben Daitz met on the Clark University Campus in 1994. When the college buddies reconnected in New York City in 2000, they were surprised to find that they were both working in the restaurant industry. After Ratha Chaupoly opened Kampuchea restaurant in 2006 where Num Pang sandwiches were an integral part of the menu. The pair decided to open up the first Num Pang Sandwich shop near Union Square in March of 2009 and soon after a location in Midtown East. With graffiti art on the walls and 80s/90s hip hop blasting from the speakers, crowds extend all the way down the block to order these creative Asian sandwiches and sides that combine the flavors from Ratha’s childhood in Cambodia with Ben’s culinary technique.

In spring of 2012, Num Pang opened their third and flagship location in the up-and-coming NoMad neighborhood, in addition to a location in Chelsea Market, and just recently opened a fifth location in Times Square with more in the works (including a location in the highly coveted World Financial Center in Spring 2014) . Additionally the shops continue to be recognized by top tier media such as Bon Appetit who named their sandwiches “one of the top 25 things to eat in 2012”, The Village Voice who awarded them “Best Sandwich of 2013”, and they have been one of the highest rated sandwich shops in Zagat since opening.

That’s the way the came above

I ordered the Roasted Chicken ‘Chimi’ $8.00 below:

20140505-202019.jpg
It was delicious! The pickles and carrots with cilantro layered the flavors nicely! First you tasted the amazing baked and toasted fresh bread, then you tasted the chicken and wham you get smacked with the sour pickle and sweet carrots with potent fresh cilantro at the end! All I one mouth full of chewing!

It was amazing and I would go back! I would also order the spicy Cambodian Slaw next time with the blood orange lemonade!

My sister ordered the Pulled Duroc Pork $8.25 and she too said it was amazing and she would order it again, and that’s coming from an extremely picky eater!

20140505-202603.jpg

The location was small and quaint, but it quickly got loud with the young clientele that came in.
