My favorite Dominican lo mein!

As you can see this place is huge!

Sabrosura 2 is a nice place! Not as good as 1 but only because the place is large and the service sucks! It took forever at lunch time to get a waiter! There was only 2 for the huge place!

Just look at the food above it was amazing and cheap! As long as you aren’t in a hurry go enjoy it!

Restaurant Review: Sabrosura – Castle Hill road Bronx, NY

All of the food here is absolutely amazing!! A mix of Spanish (Dominican/Puerto Rican) and Chinese.

The menu is just as huge as the portion size!  Pictured above is the Dominican Lo Mein! With huge chunks of chicken! It was absolutely delicious! And the price is right at this place! Go go go!

Restaurant Review: Sweet and Savory – a crepe and rice pudding bar – Port Jefferson Long Island NY

This place is awesome! I am only reviewing the rice pudding bar.

As you can see they have many different flavors! I got the Holy Cannoli and it was just as good as Miami Rice’s Cannoli rice pudding. However; Miami Rice in Denville, NJ closed a couple years ago and I have been missing flavored rice pudding ever since.

It tastes great! If you are in the area it is definitely worth going!

Restaurant Review: Tuk Tuk Long Island City, NY

-tuktukny.com

The Pea soup was good, the steamed dumplings were good although they were only 2 pieces. The soup: Tom Ka Gai was amazing! It was perfect the way it should be!

The Massaman Curry was the best I have ever tasted and I don’t take that lightly! Previously; Tommy Cheng’s in Wayne NJ was the best and Tuk Tuk was slightly better the way they layered the sweet and spicy taste with chili, curry and cilantro was amazing!

Check this place out!

Restaurant Review: Cevich – Union Square NYC

IMG_9770.JPG
Cevich brings a brand new healthy food option to Union Square as New York City’s first grab-n-go Ceviche restaurant. This small but modern and relaxing restaurant offers a variety of dishes that blend traditional Peruvian recipes along with other culinary influences. Cevich’s dishes are fresh, affordable, customizable and gluten-free. Located in one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods, Cevich is close to famous attractions such as the Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park, as well as many boutique and name brand shops. Under the direction of co-owners and operators Reina Laws and Lindsay Goldstein, Cevich will become a trusted brand of the Ceviche product in a rapidly growing food market.

Cevich offers a variety of dishes inspired by the ancient South American cuisine in which fresh fish and seafood is “cold cooked” in a marinade of citrus juices, spices and other ingredients such as chilies, red onions and cilantro. The origins can be traced to the coastal regions of South America and is believed to have been created after Spanish settlers brought citrus trees to the region and Japanese immigrants their new culinary techniques and flavors. Executive Chef Evelyn Alberto executes the menu with sauces made in house daily with local, fresh ingredients. Menu items range from ceviche burritos and tacos to 12 or 16 oz. ceviche bowls and entrée salads.

I got the Ceviche bowl with coconut rice, lime n da coconut (hold the red onion) and shrimp with avocado (not worth the $2 extra couldn’t even find the microscopic pieces) and Rocoto Sofrito hot sauce (that was amazing)

I loved it all except the price welcome to NYC! The food was fresh and light! If you order it with greens it’s perfect for gluten free and low carb diets!

Check this place out for something out of the ordinary and delicious!

I got the tuna tartare and my girlfriend got the lobster roll. The tuna was great! Extremely fresh and tasted amazing! The Asian slaw underneath accented the tuna nicely and balanced the flavors! The lobster roll however was watery and had zero taste because of it! I believe in was a cooking error! I believe they boiled the lobster and didn’t steam it. When they boiled the lobster they didn’t allow it to drain before adding the mayo and other ingredients thus causing the lobster salad to be watery and lacking all flavor. Proper ingredients as it was busting with fresh lobster chunks, but poor execution made for a bad lunch on her part and her fathers (he ordered the same) I’m glad the tuna was amazing as poor raw tuna could have been a nightmare!

Check out this place! The surrounding meals looked great, mine tasted great and the atmosphere is serene as the restaurant sits perched above lake hopatcong giving you a nice view with a nice breeze off the lake!

The parking sucks! So if you have a smaller car and a larger one, take the smaller one lol!

I was surprised at how delicious all the food was! The coconut yogurt (fake yogurt like substance) tasted like yogurt even though the wasn’t any dairy in it! The Chocolate Mousse didn’t taste like Chocolate Mousse but it was delicious and the base ingredient is avocado! Which is a staple in my current diet! The Matcha Tea and Chia seed was also delicious! It’s flavors were layered nicely! At $6-8 I would buy all of the products again, but not too often!

20140702-131052-47452054.jpg
The Dragon’s Breath was $4 and wasn’t bad the flavors were layered first the lemon then the ginger and pow the cayenne! I saved it for preworkout and it was nice!
I want to try to reverse engineer it for myself! It seems easy enough to make.

This is the takeout for pure food and wine restaurant. Check out this site it also has an online store.

I went there today skeptical… And had the chocolate pudding: first off it’s not pudding! You vegans can’t steal our names and make your food ours!

Pudding is pudding! If you want to call yours pudding-like substance ok! Ps the same goes for yogurt, veggie burger, tiramisu, ice cream, moon pies and definitely Cheesecake! Make up your own names! No piggybacking!

That being said; I had the pudding like substance from One Lucky Duck and let me tell you it was amazing! That being said; I am not giving up meat! But I can add some of their products to my diet!

Does it taste like pudding? No! It was delicious and tastes totally different. Like nothing you have had. Does it have a pudding consistency? No! It’s slightly thicker. Does it look like pudding? Yes. Will I buy it again? Yes, but at $11 that’s crazy! Maybe once in a blue moon! Will I try to reengineer it? Yes!

20140626-210509-75909198.jpg

20140626-210508-75908229.jpg

20140626-210555-75955317.jpg

I’ll just have to sneak in a ziplock bag of grilled chicken to make these dishes perfect! 😝

Seriously; try it and you will be amazed at how delicious raw food can be!

If you think hard enough there are plenty of foods that are delicious, fruits, veggies, Nutbutters, coconut etc.. However; my body and lifestyle demands way more protein on a daily basis! 1-1.5g of protein per pound of bodyweight! At 250lbs It would cost me a fortune to eat enough protein, with vegan proteins normally come carbs, carbs for my body-type are the Devil! So for me; I couldn’t totally switch. Nor do I want to! But like I said; it won’t hurt for me to integrate a little in my diet.

Remember the phrase:
Everything in moderation! Too much of one thing isn’t good for you! The same goes for not enough of everything also isn’t good!

Check it out! And stay tuned for more from them!

The only problem with this place is the prices are insane! Not crazy…insane! If the pudding was a reasonable $6-6:50 each I would be in everyday!

That’s a guaranteed $32.50 a week! And I would most likely buy more stuff as I go and look. But at $11 each maybe one a week if they are lucky!

If only they were reasonable! I could probably get a lot more people to go! Even those of us that aren’t vegan!

**Update** July 7th 2014

20140707-183420-66860387.jpg
I got the infamous Mint Ice Cream sundae!

For being raw vegan and zero dairy it wasn’t that bad! The mint pseudo ice cream tasted like ice cream but the other flavor and the brownie chunks were noticeably different, but as a whole it was delicious and I would get it again. However; the chocolate pseudo pudding is by far my favorite! It tastes like real pudding and I wouldn’t mind eating it daily! If only it was more affordable!

**Update** July 10th 2014
Last night my girlfriend made the avocado Pseudo pudding recipe from here and she hit the nail on the head! She has all the cookbooks from Pure Food and Wine, so It was exactly the same consistency, color and flavor! It was delicious, lucky for me she made a big batch, so I can enjoy it for the next couple days! I had a little this morning for breakfast!

It’s great for battling a sweet tooth while staying on your diet! The best part is the recipe is raw, so how hard can it be! Avocados, cocoa and probably a few other ingredients together and boom yummy pudding like substance! It satisfies your healthy omega requirements and gives you a treat at the same time!

Check out Pure Food & Wine as well as One Lucky Duck! I promise you won’t be upset even though it’s raw vegan! If you happen to be raw vegan however; it may ruin your life! The products are soo good it may ruin other places for you and make you go broke only eating their food! I am not sure if they still sell cookbooks, but if they do, invest in them and take your raw vegan lifestyle to the next level! If you aren’t raw vegan like myself, some of the recipes will give you another tool for your toolbox on your way to a healthy balanced lifestyle!

Remember my catch phrase: Everything in moderation! That goes for anything and everything in life! If you can stick by that, you will have a happy, healthy and fun life! That’s my recipe for success!

It’s on my when we go to extremes that we get in trouble! Think about that!

**Note** Stay tuned July 19th for more!
