Recipe: homemade low carb Buffalo Chicken Salad

Chicken: grilled, smoked or rotisserie

Celery (diced)

Gorgonzola blue cheese or any blue cheese

And Franks red hot (buffalo wing sauce)

As most of you know I got an awesome Bluetooth smoker

And I have been smoking 3 chickens a week for my diet.

12-14hrs. I just pour a little mustard bbq sauce on the skin and rub it in and boom let it cook and it’s done.

Pull all the meat off when it’s hot and it just falls off the bone!

Once you have your buckets of meat take some add the ingredients above:

Celery, buffalo wing sauce, and blue cheese and then toss in a closed container! Boom that’s it!

serve over cauliflower rice and Enjoy!

Recipe: Low Carb, Low Fat General Tso’s Turkey

Gen Tso’s Ground Turkey

3lbs ground turkey

2 red peppers (any color)

1 bag riced Cauliflower

Mushrooms (I used fresh baby Bella’s this time)

Olive oil

1/4 cup Braggs liquid aminos

1/2 cup rice vinegar (no sodium no sugar added)

1 spice packet of Gen Tsos chicken

Meat seasoning optional:

Cayenne pepper

Black pepper

Chipotle pepper

And I topped it with jalepeno pepper flakes

Pour olive oil to coat the bottom of the pan a little extra is ok!

Brown the meat and season it then drain offf the excess oil into the original container and throw out! Don’t clog your sink drain!

Then add the remaining ingredients and stir thouroughly!

Cover and cook on 5 for 10mins

Add the jalepeno flakes garnish

Remove from heat and allow to cool a little and then enjoy! It’s that easy!

For the authentic Asian feel you can top with hot sauce and drizzle sirarcha mayo!

**Update** July 2nd this time they only had Broccoli and Cauliflower rice mix, which is great because I love both!

Recipe: Low carb, low fat, Taco Turkey Sola

This is a recipe given to me from female bodybuilder Women’s Physique competitor Caridad Sola!

Olive oil

3lbs ground turkey

1 bag of Riced Cauliflower

2 red bell peppers (any color will do)

1 packet of 30% less taco seasoning

1 8oz can of tomato sauce

I added:

Cayenne pepper

Chipotle pepper

Black pepper

My store wanted to charge $5.95 for riced cauliflower and this bag of diced up was $2.99 so I went with the better buy!

You can go fresh mushrooms, I used can because they last longer and I will have them on hand. Make sure you buy the no sodium added!

Chop up peppers and mushrooms if you have to and set aside.

Pour olive oil into a deep pan to cover the bottom, don’t worry if you pour too much the extra benefits will be good for you!

Brown the turkey meat and pour off the extra fat back into the original container. Don’t pour it down the drain! You will eventually clog it! I cooked it on a 5 heat

Add the remaining ingredients cook on high for 10mins and then turn to 2 and simmer for 20mins.

At first it will look like there isn’t enough liquid, but once you cook it, the juices from the pepper will release and add to the tomato sauce!

Serve and enjoy!

If you want to get shredded add this to your diet regimine and work your butt off in the gym!

**Update** 1 hr later

I made a second batch and it came out much better! The only thing I did different was brown the meat with the additional spices. I still waited to add the taco spice packet after the meat was browned and the other ingredients were added.

Spice it up!

Try it you will like it!

**Update** June 25th 2017

This is the riced Cauliflower

This is the final dish

The riced Cauliflower is more money in my store. The benefit is in the cook time!

10 mins on high and 5mins to simmer after the meat is brown because you don’t need the extra time to make the cauliflower bits to get soft. The riced Cauliflower cooks really fast. The extra 5 mins is to make sure the peppers are cooked and the juices released.

Check it out try it both ways see what you like best! You can also grab a whole head of Cauliflower and pulse it in a food processor/vitamix for the ultra money saver! If you have one.

**Update** July 2nd this time they only had Broccoli and Cauliflower rice mix, which is great because I love both!

The smell is horrendous!

The ingredients aren’t strange I wonder why it smells so bad! The taste wasn’t great but the aftertaste tastes like rice and isn’t bad. You don’t need a chaser after it. So far it’s the leading tasting vegan protein, which isn’t saying much, but as an alternative to whey it’s good.

Sun Warrior Warrior Blend Vanilla
Smells good and the taste wasn’t bad. Kind of like old dry rice. It’s a much different taste then Whey Protein and I have to get used to it. Will I use it in place of Whey? Hell no! I need to enjoy my post workout protein!

However; when people only use one food for extended periods they tend to build up immunities toward it and sometimes develop allergies toward it. I found that by eating so much peanut butter in my life, I now occasionally break out in hives. I don’t know how my body reacts toward Whey, sometimes I get gassy. By rotating my proteins lately from whey to natural whey to vegetable and back. I have felt much more healthy. I am also seeing muscle and strength gains. Fat loss however; is slowing.

One of the best protein powders available for any lifestyle, not just vegan or vegetarian
Complete Protein

Brown rice protein powder contains all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot synthesize but still needs in order to produce all the muscle tissue, enzymes, and hormones we require to survive. Rice protein, unlike other vegetable proteins, isn’t lacking in any of these key building blocks for protein with a balanced amino acid profile comparable with whey and much better than soy.

Whey and soy both have problems with allergies and sensitivities. Whey is made from dairy byproducts and anyone with lactose sensitivities can have problems. Unfortunately, they aren’t alone. Many people who do not have any problems with dairy can still experience gas, bloating, and digestive issues. Soy contains phytoestrogens that mimic the human hormone and cause problems. Soy allergies are also very common.

Rice, on the other hand is extremely safe and mild on the digestive system and very hypoallergenic. Rice is the perfect source for protein that won’t upset stomachs, result in bloating, or cause dangerous allergic reactions.

Rice protein is safe for vegans and vegetarians who want to avoid animal products like found in whey, casein, and egg proteins. But they aren’t the only ones to benefit. Rice protein isn’t just for vegans, but supplies ample protein and complete amino acids for anyone at any activity level or with any lifestyle.

Muscle Recovery

As a complete protein, Sunwarrior’s Classic Protein is ready to rebuild and repair muscle after workouts. Rice protein is a little slower to digest than whey, but that makes it a good pre-workout supplement and a good protein for endurance athletes.

Fat Burning

Protein creates a thermic effect, heating up the body and literally burning through more calories than other foods. This is because protein requires additional energy to digest, so you burn more for hours after eating it. Lean protein sources, like rice protein, make a healthy part of any weight loss plan.

The smell is also horrendous!
But surprisingly it tastes good! Would I use it as a whey alternative, yes.

Liquid Light:

A Powerful Raw Natural Detoxifying Electrolyte for Stamina and Well-Being
Liquid Light is what we like to call “Mineralized Solar Energy”, a raw, plant-based fulvic acid and liquid mineral complex created by nature. The minerals were captured by ancient plant life, free of modern pollution and contaminants, fulvic acid was produced by beneficial microbes, and the complex is extracted from an ancient, undisturbed plant deposit using pure cold water. This creates a liquid supplement that contains one of the most powerful nutrient transporters found in the natural world.

Liquid Light Provides:

Powerful polyelectrolytes produced by nature*
Over 72 trace minerals and elements complexed with Fulvic Acid*
Improved absorption and assimilation of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutrients*

I can’t say I wasn’t scared to try it, but it wasn’t that bad. I downed it and then drank some water.

Immune Shield

Immune Shield
A Raw Fortified Fulvic Acid and Silver Ion Complex for a Maximized Immune System
Immune Shield is a natural fulvic acid and mineral complex that is fortified with silver ions. This complex provides the most powerful silver for digestion and assimilation. The presence of silver ions, combined with fulvic acid, provides a revolutionary form of silver to assist the immune system. These molecules provide a more efficient delivery system to safely provide silver ions in high amounts (over 50 ppm) without the dangerous building up of excessive silver particles within the body’s tissue. This fortified complex delivers the maximum level of benefit, protection, and performance.

Immune Shield delivers micro ionic silver and 71 trace minerals into all fluids, tissues, and cells to assist the immune system in repelling and fighting foreign invasions*
Ionic sized silver is smaller and more absorbable than colloidal silver
Can be taken daily for immune support or every 20 to 30 minutes at the onset of any symptoms

Immune Shield with fulvic silver wasn't bad, I think I like this one a tad better taste wise.

**Update** April 27th 2014
Let me start my saying I absolutely hate green drinks! Except the wheatgrass shots at the gym. They aren’t bad. So; I grabbed a tube of the Sunwarrior Supergreens

With extreme hesitation! It made a full 12oz glass of supergreens that smelled like raw sewage (as all green drinks do!) BUT! surprisingly it was the best tasting green drink I ever had! I think it was due to the Barley, wheat, oat grass and yuca (not green and potato like root) in it.

Supplement Review: Vega – Vega’s plant-based vegan protein products *

Here I go subjecting myself again to things I don’t want to eat in the name of science and my readers!

I am a big proponent of varying your protein sources! Whey Isolate, Whey Concentrate, Soy, Egg, Various lean meats: Turkey, Chicken, Beef, Lamb, Veal, as well as gamey meats like: Bison, Ostrich, Wild Boar, Pheasant etc… Well; now I am having Vegan Protein just for you! Vega, one of the leading companies in Vegan protein has a great line of products and I am about to have their:

Vega Sport Performance Protein
Chocolate flavor.

The recent innovation to Vega Sport Performance Protein comes from the addition of SaviSeed (sacha inchi) protein, a rich, plant-based source of the amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan is a key component of serotonin production(1). Serotonin—the feel good hormone—helps with the mental aspect of recovery, so you’ll keep the drive alive and be motivated to train again. Take Vega Sport Performance Protein within 30 to 90 minutes of your workout or throughout the day to meet your individual protein needs to recharge and repair so you can do it all again, sooner.

For optimal results, use in conjunction with Vega Sport Recovery Accelerator.

Who would have figured we could make protein powder out of rice, peas and alfalfa? I’m sure Spanky and Buckwheat didn’t! I’m sure they can make protein powder out of Buckwheat too!

Ok here it goes: it mixes fairly easy with a spoon, it smells horrid! It doesn’t taste bad, it absolutely doesn’t taste like chocolate! It’s got a weird taste! I can taste the pea, but it is tolerable.

Do I enjoy it? No! That’s important for me, especially when I am on a cut! I need to enjoy my protein on a restricted calorie intake!

Available in Orange Zest and Raspberry flavors.

Taste: 7/10
Did I get more endurance: no
Did I get a sugar rush: no

BCAAs are much better in my opinion.

It tasted only like its #1 ingredient which was dates. If you like dates (I don’t) then you will love it! I didn’t taste raspberry or much of anything else. To me it was like date paste. My father would love it.

Thank you for supporting our steps towards improving our environment.

What I like best about Jay Robb protein is they don’t use artificial colors! This is the Strawberry Egg Protein!

Above dry and below mixed with oatmeal

What I also like is the flavors are subtle, they have a strong scent of the flavor, but a light taste. It’s not sickening sweet!

Another benefit of Jay Robb is his packing choices! I like the individual serving packets. They are great for a lifestyle on the run! However; they do not have a rip start and must be cut open with a scissor or knife! Luckily; I always have a knife handy! Others won’t be so lucky!

The Mixability is 9/10
The taste is 7/10

Would I purchase regularly?
Remember I am 100% honest!
The verdict:
Whey protein: No!
Egg White Protein: Yes!

I am an advocate of varying your protein source!

Soy (if you must)
And as you will soon see (coming soon) vegetarian/vegan protein

I am also looking into different sources such as rice and hemp. So stay tuned!

If you are allergic to one source there are many others!

For Egg White Protein powder: Jay Robb Rules!

Supplement Review: SFH Pure Whey – Natural Whey

Whey protein is a pure, natural, high quality protein from cow’s milk. Our whey protein is derived from grass fed, free range cows, which are never treated with antibiotics or bovine growth hormones. It is a rich source of the essential amino acids needed on a daily basis by the body.
Our proteins hydrate well in water and are absorbed very well by your body. All whey proteins differ in lactose content, fats and calcium. Pure Whey has low lactose content; is low in cholesterol; and high in free calcium.
It is an excellent protein choice for all ages including children and provides a number of benefits in areas including sports nutrition, weight management, immune support, bone health, and general wellness.
If you are concerned about your child’s food choices, Pure Whey, with 82% protein content is an excellent choice to help kids grow up healthy.

It smells amazing! Fresh vanilla smell! The powder is super fine and mixes easily.

It contains sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin to help it mix. Something Protein 17 could have added.

It contains natural vanilla but not enough! Could use a tad bit more Vanilla!

It tastes ok. Not as good as Body Logix and no where near as bad as unflavored! It still had that distinct natural whey sour milk taste but the vanilla helped a lot! The Body Logix Vanilla had it a little also.

The chocolate is slightly better tasting! It wasn’t too bad!

This product is good, but it’s not the best thing that SFH has to offer! Just wait and see!! There’s more 😉

Supplement Review: Natural Protein: Protein 17 – Organic Grass Fed Unflavored Whey Protein by Body Uprising Enterprises *

This is my Historic 500th post! Also; today is the 3 year Anniversary of my blog! Thank you to my Cousin AJ for getting me started!

The one thing I don’t like about Protein 17 is their infomercial looking website. It kind of hurts their credibility.

Plain shake with water
In my cheesecake recipe
In oatmeal

Protein 17:

Take 2 minutes now to learn:

1. Why you could be wasting your money on one of the many protein powders which are very heavily processed and contain “controversial” additives such as genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) and artificial sweeteners.

2. How to choose a protein powder which ensures the best nutrition for your body (organic whey is only part of it).

Does your whey protein come from factory-farmed, hormone-treated cows?

What most people DO know
Having a higher protein intake can promote health and muscle gains

Whey protein has the highest biological value (proportion of proteins which can be absorbed into the body) of any protein
What most people DON’T know
The more natural your food, the more lean muscle and the less body-fat you’ll probably have (this is because natural foods are assimilated better into the body)

Toxins that you ingest can impair the fat burning and muscle building processes

This is where the problems start for most people who use protein powders. They make a good decision to use protein powders to increase their protein intake but they don’t know the red flags to look for in the proteins they choose.

More muscle thru better health
We all know that working out and eating right to build muscle and lose fat can be a real challenge. We know that hard training and healthy natural foods help us to build muscle and lose bodyfat but what many people haven’t realized is that…

Unless you eat organic, muscle building and fat loss can be even more difficult.

Unless you eat organic, muscle building and fat loss can be even more difficult.

The reason is simple but often overlooked.

Health, muscle gain and fat loss depend on a complex interplay of chemical processes and hormones. When we eat non-organic foods (which may contain pesticides, fertilizers, hormones or heavy metals), these delicate processes may become unbalanced.

In simple terms:
Non-organic foods can stop our bodies working properly and many people find that they build muscle and lose fat simply by eating the same foods but switching to organic.

So if you are serious about building a strong, lean, healthy body, you should ideally stop consuming non-organic, processed protein powders and use a pure whey like Protein 17.

There’s more good news too:
It’s a myth that eating organic costs more—it can actually cost you less!

Many people report spending less money on food when they eat organic.

Simple – it’s likely that they get more nutrients (from the organic products) so their bodies crave less food. Therefore, they eat less.

Here’s an example:
Would your body benefit more from 20g of highly-processed, artificially-sweetened protein or 10g of minimally-processed, organic, pure whey protein?

This is what you haven’t been told
Many commercial protein powders:

Contain very controversial additives including artificial sweeteners (many health experts believe these could be dangerous), genetically-modified-organisms (also highly controversial – the effects on humans not really known), fillers (additives just to make the powder bigger so that there is more profit in it).
Heavily processed whey protein powder.

Are heavily processed potentially leaving the delicate immune-supporting and muscle building components of the whey damaged.
Are treated with ACID (this is how casein is actually made).
Are treated with SOY just to make them mix well. Check the ingredients label on your protein powders and look for “soy lecithin”. It’s in almost all protein powders.

What’s the problem with soy?

1) Many health experts now consider soy to be an ANTI-nutrient because it prevents the body absorbing other nutrients

2) it’s thought to be estrogenic which means that it can cause an increase in female hormones in the body (which can make muscle building and fat loss much harder as well as other potential health complications)

3) soy is often genetically modified and sourced from cows who are fed grain (because it’s cheap but grain is not their natural food) (unlike pure, natural grass fed whey protein).
Many cows are injected with Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH) and antibiotics to make them produce more milk… is this where your whey comes from?

Cows who are treated with antibiotics and hormones.

Does it come from whey protein sourced from China or India (which is thought to have much lower quality control standards than Europe and the US).
Scary isn’t it?

Follow the 7 critical rules when choosing your whey:
1. Whey protein concentrate that is certified organic and comes from cows that graze on organic grass pastures.
Do NOT accept whey made from factory-farmed, grain-fed or corn-fed cows.

2. Cows that are not treated with artificial hormones.
Do not accept whey from cows who are treated with artificial hormones. Many non-organic farms treat dairy cows with rBGH (Bovine Growth Hormone) to increase milk production. This hormone is highly controversial and actually been banned in many European countries.

3. Cold treated.
Do NOT accept high-heat processed whey. Most whey protein is processed with very high temperatures. This can damage the delicate immune-boosting properties and amino acids naturally found in whey.

4. Whey protein organic concentrate from cows that graze on organic grass pastures.
Do NOT accept whey protein isolate, hydrolysate or isolate/concentrate blends, even if they claim to be grass-fed whey protein. Isolates/hydrolysates are proteins that have heavily can damage their nutritional cofactors (see below for a more detailed explanation).

5. Whey protein concentrate that is free from acid treatments.
Do NOT accept whey that has been acid treated or is ion exchanged. These methods are are cheaper (this is why they are used), but they may damage the protein.

6. Free from artificial sweeteners.
Do not accept protein powders that are contain artificial sweeteners like Aspartame, Sucralose or Acesulfame K. These sweeteners are highly controversial often used to mask the very bitter taste of inferior acid processed whey.

7. Only put pure, clean, whey protein organic concentrate in your body.

Know the origin of your whey protein.
Some top protein powder brands use whey sourced from China or India. As you can imagine quality standards vary significantly from country to country.

Choose a protein that is minimally-processed and guaranteed to have the exceptional nutritional value.

A whey that has a full spectrum amino acid profile and all of the nutritional cofactors still intact.
At last, a protein powder you can trust!

“I thought whey protein isolate was better?”
Whey Protein Isolates, Hydrolysates and Isolate/Concentrate blends have been well marketed but the reality is that they are more heavily processed powders in which the proteins are potentially damaged and many of the beneficial components of the whey have been removed (unlike grass fed whey protein).

You see, Whey Protein Concentrate is also known as WPC80.

All WPC 80 means is that it’s 80 percent protein.

The remaining 20% consists of beneficial nutrients and minerals that exist naturally in milk that your body will use to help absorb & process the whey optimally.

So why do manufacturers remove these??

The fitness business knows people are fixated on the amount of protein per serving so if they can list a slightly higher number on the label by reducing these nutrients, they will do it.

So, that’s the difference between an isolates/hydrolysates and concentrate:

The isolates / hydrolysates have lower levels of certains nutrients just so the label can list a few extra grams of protein per serving.

(Note: be wary of anyone advertising “raw whey”. It is against the law to sell raw whey in many countries. Protein 17 is not raw but it is minimally-processed to maintain the quality of the amino acids and the nutrients).

If you really want the fastest health and muscle gains, make sure you are using the purest, grass-fed, organic natural whey protein concentrate powder. and

This protein is totally stripped down! Not even Soy Lecithin to help it mix better.

I put it in a glass and that’s what happened. It says use a blender on the bottle, but I refuse to use a blender! So I tried a shaker bottle next and it’s nasty plain yuk! So I added natural cocoa powder, a dash of cinnamon and a tsp of xylitol. It wasn’t bad and it mixed smooth!

It has no taste when drinking, but when you are done it hits you with a really bad almost stale milk aftertaste! It’s not too bad in the cheesecake, but it’s not good either! I am going to try it tomorrow night with some Organic Cinnamon lets see if it makes a world of difference!

Cinnamon in the protein with water was an epic fail it was still gross!

Now I see why companies at the very least have chocolate and vanilla!

I will add organic choco powder into a shake next and into my oatmeal and cheesecake! Lets see if that works!

Let’s try Organic Cheesecake take 2 & 3:

On top is the cinnamon and it didn’t work yuk so I added a little nutmeg too and it was great! As nutmeg is strong!

The cocoa powder also worked amazing! So there you go two ways to enjoy your natural protein! Without the aid of a blender!

The oatmeal test was a bust! I tried it with cocoa powder and cinnamon and it needed xylitol bad! I didn’t add it I choked it down, but it wasn’t pleasant!

For those of you that like unflavored all natural organic I am doing a bunch of reviews!

For those that like flavored all natural organic protein I am also doing a bunch of reviews for you.

And for those of you that like vegan protein I have a couple of the leading companies coming in a couple weeks after the natural whey companies!

What is unflavored protein good for? The answer is simple! But of course I am going to make it difficult lol!

Do you remember the King of Fitness? Jack Lalanne?

Jack was amazing and I miss him! Anyway Jack also started the juice movement! He said he was juicing himself over 7 decades with a press type machine. He released the Juice tiger and eventually the Power Juicer which is still being sold today after his death!

If you are a juicer, unflavored organic whey protein is for you!

Mix a scoop or 2 in your smoothies and get the power of clean protein along with your vegetables such as spinach and carrots, hidden behind your delicious fruits.

As for bodybuilders:
I just made a shake with 1 scoop of Sweet Purity Organics and half a teaspoon of natural cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon of xylitol and it wasn’t bad!

Check out their websites:

This contains soy lecithin for easy mixing. The Next protein review: protein 17 doesn’t even contain that!

You can’t say I don’t bring you enough review options:
All natural organic flavored protein: Body Logix
All natural organic unflavored that contains lecithin for easy mixing: Sweet Purity Organics
All natural organic unflavored stripped down to the clumpy max: Protein 17

**Update** March 20th 2014
I tried it again today, I gave up drinking it! However; I used 1 scoop in my cheesecake recipe with 1tsp cocoa powder and 3tsp xylitol and it was really good today! I will use this for cooking such as: protein pudding, oatmeal and pancakes and like I said this is perfect for juicers and smoothie drinkers!

For absolutely natural, non artificially sweetened protein, this stuff tastes amazing! It’s smooth and goes down easy! I have added vanilla and chocolate to my deconstructed upside down low calorie/low fat/low carb/high protein cheesecake and I have enjoyed it with both flavors!

If you are looking for a natural whey protein, there’s nowhere else to look!

Bodylogix also has a Natural Whey Isolate that I want to get my hands on! It has 25g of protein and only 100 calories! That’s unheard of in the industry! I want it bad!!
