Variety is the spice of life

Have you ever heard the saying variety is the spice of life?

Back in the times of Columbus and Marco Polo what do you think was the most expensive?
Gold?
Money?
Jewels?

No! It was Spice!

On a per ounce basis spices were the most expensive. That’s why they created a spice trade route to Asia.

Even today try and buy Saffron or some truffles it’s still pretty expensive.

No one wants to eat the same old thing over and over and over again! Especially if you are a pro-bodybuilder and are limited to grilled chicken, beef, steamed veggies… Basically tasteless food!

Well thanks to spices, you don’t have to eat bland food. I don’t know any spices that add calories to your food, because you use them in minute amounts, the addition is only trivial.

So, what’s the moral of the story? Go places you wouldn’t normally go such as an Asian market, a Spanish bodega or a Middle Eastern/Indian market and pick up different spices you don’t normally use: adobo, different chilies, garam masala, different curries etc…

It will give your food different tastes and you will get an exposure to a different culture in the process.

Just because you are on a diet or restricted calorie diet, it doesn’t ever mean you need to eat bland plain food! Spice it up!

So, if you go to places you don’t normally go, it spices up your life…

So I guess variety is the Spice of life!

Or is Spice the variety of life?

I guess both!!

Buon Appetito!
