Controversy: Falun Gong/Falun Dafa

I am a Martial Artist with 24 years of experience in multiple forms from multiple Countries. Japan, China, Brazil, The Philippines, Thailand, Korea etc…

I have briefly studied the Arts of Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Qigong, but I have never heard of Falun Gong.

This past week I was in Manhattan and I saw a group of Chinese people practicing what looked like Qigong. As I walked by I was given a free DVD and it told me all about Falun Gong and it’s persecution in China.

I watched the video in disgust that this is happening in Modern Day China!! A country so rich in its heritage and rich in Martial Arts and the Martial Arts Culture. China a country where Wushu is the national sport! Wushu is also taught at school and Universities as a core class just as America has gym class.

100 million people in China practiced Falun Gong. President Jiang Zemin feared Falun Gong’s popularity over shadowed his own and ordered it eliminated. Practitioners were beaten, tortured, imprisoned and killed. All in an effort to stop the art from being practiced.

I have seen Falun Gong with my own eyes. It is peaceful meditation, Qigong like motions. I would like to see the government try the same thing at the Shaolin Temple! Those monks would kick their ass! Remember what happened the last time they tried that at Shaolin.

It is mind boggling just think this is happening in a country where traditions and culture are so rich. I don’t know what the President was thinking how can an art or a sport be bigger than a person? It’s like comparing Abraham Lincoln to the invention of the car. They have nothing to do with each other! A car is one of the best inventions ever and Abraham Lincoln was one of the best Presidents ever, but they don’t take anything away from each other.

Having further delved into the topic, I found that unlike Qigong and Tai Chi, Falun Gong’s roots are Buddhist.

Let me remind you of China’s attack record when it comes to Buddhism.

The 14th Dalai Lama (religious name: Tenzin Gyatso, shortened from Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso, born Lhamo Dondrub,[2] 6 July 1935) is the 14th and current Dalai Lama. Dalai Lamas are the most influential figures in the Gelugpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, although the 14th has consolidated control over the other lineages in recent years. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, and is also well known for his lifelong advocacy for Tibetans inside and outside Tibet. Tibetans traditionally believe him to be the reincarnation of his predecessors and a manifestation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

The Dalai Lama was born in Taktser, Qinghai (also known to Tibetans as Amdo),[3] and was selected as the rebirth of the 13th Dalai Lama two years later, although he was only formally recognized as the 14th Dalai Lama on 17 November 1950, at the age of 15. He inherited control over a government controlling an area roughly corresponding to the Tibet Autonomous Region just as the nascent People’s Republic of China wished to assert central control over it. There is a dispute over whether the respective governments reached an agreement for a joint Chinese-Tibetan administration.

During the 1959 Tibetan uprising, which China regards as an uprising of feudal landlords, the Dalai Lama, who regards the uprising as an expression of widespread discontent, fled to India, where he denounced the People’s Republic and established a Tibetan government in exile. A charismatic speaker, he has since traveled the world, advocating for the welfare of Tibetans, teaching Tibetan Buddhism and talking about the importance of compassion as the source of a happy life. Around the world, institutions face pressure from China not to accept him. He has spoken about such topics as abortion, economics, firearms, and sexuality, and has been the subject of controversy for his alleged treatment of Dorje Shugden followers and his office’s receipt of support from the CIA in the 1960s.

The Dalai Lama, one of the world’s most wisest men, still lives in exile from his Native Homeland of Tibet.

I believe, the link between The Dalai Lama and Buddhism is the real reason Falun Gong is being Persecuted!

Freedom is reigning all over the world in the past few Years! Kuwait, Iraq, Libya, all over the Arab World freedom is starting to reign! North Korea even gets its first amusement park, Isn’t it time freedom spreads a little further East? Isn’t it time to free Tibet and Falun Gong?

The President is the voice of the people! He should not be involved in religion. He should be involved in human rights and freedom.

If the leader of China reads this: I want you to look back in history. Look to countries like England, France, Italy and Spain. When the king was involved in religion and the church, it was called the Dark Ages! Why; because it doesn’t work!

The times of the Crusades where the Catholic Church said convert to Christianity or die! Ended up bringing an end to the Holy Roman Empire.

As a strong leader you should support your people, support their beliefs. If a 100 million people practice Falun Gong you should have gone out there and tried it with them, instead of abolishing it. Even if you don’t support the Buddhist side of it, you support your people and they will support you!

If you want examples of leader not supporting their people look first to Italy and Benito Mussolini!

After being shot, kicked, and spat upon, the bodies were hung upside down on meathooks from the roof of an Esso gas station.

How bout Muammar al-Gaddafi?

20120405-213950.jpg
He was beaten and dragged threw the streets till he was finally shot in the head with his own gun and his body was also put on display!

Both Men were killed by their own people that they didn’t support!

Look what happened in America during prohibition! It became illegal to make, own or consume alcoholic beverages. Guess what it didn’t work!

Martial Arts in Korea were banned and they went underground that’s where we got farm like weapons like the Kama (a sickle like knife) the Tonfa which was later adopted by police officers called the side baton. Now Tai Kwon Do is the national sport of Korea.

People will find a way to do what they like and what they believe in. Instead of fighting a loosing war on a meaningless subject like Falun Gong, embrace it! Tell the world it originated here in China! Be proud that so many people practice the art. Regardless of any religious or political concepts and beliefs.

Too many people argue and kill over their religious beliefs. Please see the article here on Religion.
