Mobile Restaurant Review: Everyone has the Ice Cream Man! What about the Waffleman, Halalman and Tacoman? Only in NYC!

Amazing Waffle Yummyness (yes, I invented a new word)

Waffles with toppings in a portable cardboard holder from a portable waffle truck! who would have thought about that? I’m glad they did!

What’s a dinge? its a topping and they have their own.

Called “Best Condiment of 2010” by Time Out NY. It’s been called “awesome”, “incredibily orgasmic” and “how I fixed my crappy day”. Spekuloos is a spread* that looks like peanut butter, but it tastes like traditional Belgian gingerbread-cinnamon cookies. It beats Nutella 10 to 1. It leaves Spekuloos-virgins in awe.

Or…I have goesting to take a nice long walk…

CENTRAL PARK ZOO – weekly SCHEDULE for the “Vedette” cart*

Permanent location at the North-West corner of 5th Ave & 60th Street, right at the gate leading to the Zoo

  • Every day: from 10am till 8pm

*”Vedette” is actually a French word, which is often used in Flemish slang when you talk about a person who’s a “character””. “He’s a real vedette” could mean that you’re talking about someone who’s a star, or just a remarkable and colorful character.

GREAT LAWN at Central Park – weekly SCHEDULE for the “Kotmadam” cart*

Permanent location at the Great Lawn, near Turtle Pond and the Delacorte Theatre. Follow your nose or use the 85th street entrance. Whatever’s easiest.

  • Every day: from 11am till 8pm

* The “Kotmadam” name comes from the town Leuven, where the waffle-guy grew up. Leuven is packed with tens of thousands of bike riding college-students from September until June. They all live in brick houses of the town’s narrow streets, which have been converted to dorm rooms, which they call their “kot.” A “kot” is a slang term for your dorm roo, but also means “shack, “hole,” etc. A “kot” is usually managed by a rather colorful lady called the “kotmadam.” The town of Leuven recognized the importance the “kotmadams” play in the social fabric of the town, and we’re very pleased to bring her to YOU!
